Understanding What a Risk Assessment Form Is

A risk assessment form is a form which purpose is to identify possible causes of harm and the likelihood of that harm to actually occur and what are the measures needed to be taken to reduce that likelihood before an accident happens.

A hazard is any thing that has the potential to cause harm. To further illustrate this, think of a kitchen knife for instance. The kitchen knife's potential harm could be a minor cut that would need gauze or a plaster. The risk level is the product of the likelihood of the harm and its potential severity. A high risk is one where an accident is very likely to happen that may lead to serious injury or even death. On the other hand, a low level risk is the one where an accident is unlikely to happen or would only result to minor injury. A medium level risk is in between those two.

With the use of a risk assessment form, you can calculate the risks and direct attention and resources to where they are most needed. This is to prevent injuries or ill-health. This kind of form is available in your company. However, if you want to get a broader idea of what it is, you may easily check the Internet for different templates for risk assessment.

There are five keys in a form for risk assessment:

1. Identifying the hazards.

2. Knowing who may be harmed and how.

3. Identifying what you are already doing and what further significant actions may be done.

4. Working on how to put assessment into action.

5. Review.
